Summary

Hoping to enjoy a pleasant evening, Léa organises a dinner party for friends. Thomas, her partner who is suffering from depression, hasn’t been to the office for several months. At first glance, the idea of hosting his colleague Antoine, his wife Marie and a third friend, Sami, seems rather appealing. But when Thomas makes an announcement as terrible as it is out of the blue, the dinner takes a frightening turn... With humour and ferocity, *On est sauvage comme on peut* explores human loneliness and uncovers, behind the niceties and unspoken truths, an immense appetite for life.

Why do we sometimes feel so isolated amidst other guests? What is really at play, beyond the apparent normality of the words exchanged? What unbearable subtexts, what power struggles, what contained violence? In this tragicomedy, the actors and actresses, with vitality and agility, heighten the dynamics at work in social relationships. From realism to the absurd, they uproot the frightening banality of life. What if acts of madness were attempts to become the heroes and heroines of our own lives?

As part of a retrospective marking the tenth anniversary of the Collectif Greta Koetz, the Théâtre Les Tanneurs is staging *Le mal du hérisson* from 7 to 10 April, and *On est sauvage comme on peut*, their first production, at the Varia. How has contemporary society taken hold of the issues present in the narrative? We are delighted to welcome the revival of this youth production, as free-spirited as it is powerful, and to discover its new resonances.

A retrospective presented in collaboration with Théâtre Les Tanneurs.

It was an incredible experience, then, to take in this show—so clever, so funny, and so skilfully directed and performed. Thrilling, subtle, profound too, and very intense.

Louise Rulh, The Alchemy of the Word, 19 July 2019

Dear audience member, don’t come here expecting the tried-and-tested formulas of other
groups whose style is familiar and expected. This is a different kettle of fish. Just go with the flow and let yourself be surprised. And may laughter, when it comes, take you to new places

Theatrorama, 28 July 2019

The demonstration is relentless. It makes us question our own demons and oddities, and what we (wrongly?) suppress out of social propriety, whilst showing us just how fine the line is between staying on this side and falling to the other.

Marie Velter, Le Bruit du Off, 24 July 2019

We must also pay tribute to the wonderful performances of the actors, which shine throughout the show. A wild tale of high-society cannibalism, a metaphor for a world devoured by social conventions, which challenges us to question our ability to break free from political correctness and plunge headfirst into a whirlwind of the absurd, the unpredictable and the unprecedented. It’s mad.

Luis Armengol, L'Arts-Vues, 28 July 2019

Château Faible (The Pathetic Epic) is a celebration of cowardice, a silent and offbeat tale set in the Middle Ages. It is a world steeped in chivalric fantasy, yet one in which strength is held up to ridicule.

A multinational luxury brand, an eccentric artist and a lavish party. *L e Conseil des Méchants* is a dark fairy tale in which Alyssa Tzavaras delightfully combines the immense potential of theatrical machinery with a baroque world, very loosely inspired by Shakespeare’s *Macbeth *.

The title sets the tone: a delightful play on words, a portmanteau of ‘multiverse’ and ‘sausage’. Parallel universes overlap in garish colours; a journey of discovery begins, inviting the player to take the plunge into a digital vortex: this is the story of a butcher’s daughter who rebels against a predetermined path.

If we cannot escape our fate, can we survive it? Bordering on satire, and exploring themes of power, pollution and family secrets, Héloïse Ravet takes on the German playwright Maja Zade’s feverish reinterpretation of the famous Greek myth.
