Partner artists

Over the course of the seasons, eleven partner artists and collectives will take up a long-term residency at the theatre and play a part in its transformation. Coming from different backgrounds, drawing on a wealth of evolving inspirations and the diversity of their artistic practices, they will be at the heart of the new artistic vision that Varia aims to establish: resolutely plural and inclusive, attentive to interdisciplinarity, hybrid aesthetics, the porosity of our imaginations and the power of our fictions.  

Throughout their creative journeys, we will stand by their side, in a relationship of loyalty, listening to their desires and expectations. We will support them by providing the time and space necessary for their creative exploration. In return, we ask them to involve diverse audiences in the intimate process of their work, building a direct and lasting dialogue with them.   

The life of a show does not begin on opening night: how can we extend and enrich the relationship between artists and audiences, both before and beyond the moment of performance? How can we strengthen our interactions and broaden our cross-disciplinary approaches to sustainably re-engage with our shared environment? These are the questions our partner creators will need to address, in order to invent new moments of sharing and connection, and to restore meaning to what brings us together: art that is truly alive.
